RETARGETING & REMARKETING

To all those people who are new to online marketing “Retargeting” and “Remarketing” seem to have the same meaning. Although these terms are often used interchangeably, there is a big difference between them. If you have an online business and are trying to sell your goods to the clients, it is very important to learn that only a small amount of people become clients from the beginning when they visit you page online. Retargeting and Remarketing are there to help the rest to be interested in your brand.

Retargeting

Retargeting is the most important part of marketing software that is helping to target the people who visit the page. Retargeting is there to help you study the browsing behavior of the visitor; send some personalized messages in order to convince them to come back.

Retargeting is a very good strategy as you are able to target specific visitors who once visited your page and are interested in services that you provide. Retargeting is very appealing because it is possible to target the clients through third party network and to reach the clients on hundreds of web-sites they visit. Retargeting works in a very simple way. The page remembers the cookie from the computer and then the visitor is shown the banners and media ads on different web-sites that they visit very frequently or on every-day basis.

Remarketing

Remarketing is a marketing strategy that is basically e-mail marketing. The companies send different kinds of e-mails to the clients so they go back to their web-sites. They use e-mails, not banners. An example of remarketing may be when a company sends you and e-mail saying that they are very thankful for visiting their web-site and then they offer some other items from their company that you might be interested in. So basically, they reach you through your email that you have previously mentioned on their web-site or have already purchased something from them. Amazon usually uses Remarketing. Through remarketing they advertise about auctions and sales. However not always you have access to the e-mail of the customer. If you don't have it you should start from retargeting.

Types of effective Retargeting

Search - target people based on their search that was done on Google, Yahoo etc.
Site - target people based on the items they are interested in, on the auctions (adding and taking out of their shopping cart)
SEO-SEM - target people based on the way they came to your web-site.
E-mail - target people who are connected with your e-mail programs
Contextual - target people who have visited a web-site that is very like your own
Engagement - target people who are connected with distributed content (online games or applications etc.)
Social – target people that consume similar content to the existing clients.

When you are trying to convince people to buy some products that you offer, it is better to use retargeting, because it is more effective in interacting with the possible clients on the early stages of marketing, as e-mail is more of a communicative area, where people are already interested in the product. Retargeting helps to make people become interested and it is the very first step on the way to remarketing. With both of these tools you will be pleased with the purchase of the products to the full extent.
